3 December 2008 AILU Workshop: Laser processing of polymer, metal and ceramic composites
The last AILU workshop of 2008 will be held on 3 December at the Rolls-Royce Factory of the Future within the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing, Rotherham on the subject of ?Laser processing of polymer, metal and ceramic composites?.
Specific themes include: laser processing of polymer composites within the aerospace industry; laser processing of metallic composite components; machining, cutting, drilling and texturing of carbon fibre composites; material addition and cladding of composites; current state of the art in lasers for composite processing.
25 November 2008 Funding opportunities in High Value Manufacturing: Micro/Nano laser processing success stories
This Micro:Nano Group meeting is being run through the Photonics KTN in partnership with the Nanotechnology KTN. The day comprises presentations about funding calls through the Technology Strategy Board, FP7 and the EPSRC. Hear case studies from successful partners who have delivered successful projects and proposals to obtain funding in recent calls. Give yourself the opportunity to set up collaborations and shape future calls by attending this one day event.

16 October 2008 AILU Workshop: Industrial innovation with lasers in the medical sector
This one-day meeting at Photonex 08 is to highlight developments in the application of laser technology to the burgeoning medical and biophotonics sectors. The scope of the meeting includes developments in laser sources, beam delivery, monitoring and control, auxiliary equipment, safety and standards.
27 August 2008 Medical Group Meeting: Lasers in medicine and biophotonics
Photonics is an enabling technology for many products in different sectors. Increasingly important in all areas this seminar is designed to highlight developments in laser technology as applied to medical and biophotonics areas. The burgeoning specialism of photonics in the medical sector is addressed in this one-day meeting as part of Photon 08.
7 July 2008 Laser processing of micro-optics and interconnects
The Micro:Nano Group is delighted to present the first AILU lecture which is part of the Photonics KTN lunchtime lecture series. Laser processing of micro-optics and interconnects, Mike Osborne, OpTek Systems. If you missed the 10th micro-processing workshop in June 2008, it is an excellent opportunity for you to hear Mike talking about this topic. There is an opportunity to ask questions after his presentation.
4 June 2008 Industrial opportunities in laser micro and nano processing
A 1 day workshop on 4 June 2008 at Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington. Laser technology is vitally important in the micro and emerging nanoengineering fields, providing high-resolution, accuracy, speed and flexibility; in particular, its utilisation in the engineering of micro features is key to the technical and commercial success of many mass-produced components ranging from photovoltaic cells and panels, inkjet print heads and flat panel displays, to MEMS components, circuit fabrication and micro-hole drilling.
This workshop is the first day of a 2-day event addressing Industrial and research opportunities in laser micro and nano processing organised by the North West Laser Engineering Consortium (NWLEC).
8 April 2008 AILU Members' Meeting and Annual General Meeting
This Members Meeting includes the Association's Annual General Meeting together with a Technical Meeting about new opportunities and developments. Presentations will be made for the AILU Award and Young Engineer's Prize for 2008. A Tour of the Cranfield Welding Centre and Precision Engineering Centre will follow the meeting.

Photon08 is the largest optics conference event in the UK and the fourth in the series; following Photon02 in Cardiff, Photon04 in Glasgow and Photon06 in Manchester. Photon08 will be held earlier than previous conferences, on 26 ? 29 August 2008 at the Edinburgh Conference Centre on the Heriot-Watt Campus.

13 November 2008 Learn About ?Total Light Measurement? at Pro-Lite?s 2008 Seminar
